UFE’s reply to the EC’s roadmap on the revision of State aid for environmental protection and energy guidelines

In December 2020 and January 2021, UFE replied to both the roadmap and the public consultation for the Revision of the Guidelines on State aid for Environmental protection and Energy (EEAG). UFE welcomes the Commission’s will to align these guidelines with the Green Deal’s objectives and the new climate ambitions of the EU. UFE supports technology-neutral calls for tender. Furthermore, UFE is opposed to the establishment of a mechanical link between State aid and the EU Taxonomy. UFE also recalls that pursuant to Article 194(2) of the TFEU, Member States are responsible for their own energy mix. Therefore, UFE believes that State aid should be granted to investments necessary to help Member States achieve their national targets and which would not or hardly materialize otherwise, irrespective of the considered technology.
