UFE answers the Open Public Consultation on the Renovation Wave initiative in public and private buildings
The renovation of the EU building stock is a key enabler for Europe’s decarbonisation and will be essential to the EU recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. In its reply, UFE insists on the importance to adopt a stronger climate-centric combined with a focus on energy efficiency by introducing requirements on the reduction of GHG emissions and prioritising low-carbon and efficient technologies. In addition, UFE presents its proposals to tackle the issue of financing and enhance the use of digital solutions to provide long-term benefits to the renovation. Among its recommendations, UFE calls on the EC to focus on the renovation of public buildings (e.g. hospitals, schools, etc.) as well as to push and reinforce aid devices for low-income households to alleviate energy poverty, such as the “energy cheques” delivered in France.
