UFE’s input on the EU Strategy on hydrogen

To reach carbon neutrality by 2050 a clear and comprehensive strategy regarding hydrogen is required. To that extent, UFE believes that the EC should establish a definition regarding clean hydrogen and acknowledge that clean means hydrogen produced from decarbonised electricity. Moreover, categories based on colours or specific technologies should be avoided and replaced by a CO2 based criteria. The use of hydrogen should only prevail when it is the most efficient option from a CBA perspective (heavy transport segments, eventual flexibility need for the power system).
