UFE’s answer to the EC consultation on the Impact Assessment related to the revision of Directive 2006/66/CE on batteries and accumulators and waste batteries and accumulators

The French electricity industry welcomes the EC initiative which offers an opportunity to boost Europe’s sustainable, circular and competitive battery value chain ahead of the implementation of the Green Deal and the recovery package.
UFE points out the need to further develop the recycling sector for batteries and assess the carbon footprint of batteries through a circular approach on the battery lifecycle. UFE calls on the EC to address the legal uncertainty linked to the production of green batteries to enhance the trust of the private and banking sectors. Eventually, a non-discriminatory access to data to batteries should be ensured for all concerned actors.
