UFE welcomes the initiative of the European Commission to revise the AFID to make it more consistent with the carbon-neutrality objective by 2050

To reach 90% of reduction of GHG emissions in the transport sector by 2050, the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Directive (AFID) needs to set more ambitious targets for the deployment of charging infrastructure. Among various issues, UFE calls for: extending the Directive to all publicly accessible charging infrastructure and assessing the prospects for private infrastructure, setting national binding targets per type of vehicles and reflecting the diversity of needs per territory (in terms of density and geography for instance), improving interoperability and developing smart charging. UFE also underlines that the electricity power system is ready to integrate electric vehicles into its grids by 2030.
