French Members of Parliament ratified on May 17th the Paris Agreement adopted in December 2015 at the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21). Signed by 175 countries at the United Nations’ headquarter in New York City last April, this agreement sets the basis for limiting greenhouse gas emissions and confirms the objective of holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2°C by 2100. French Senators will proceed to a vote on June 8th. Already ratified by 16 countries – most of them being small islands, the Agreement will then be adopted for the first time by an industrial power and member of the European Union.
