Electric car batteries become less performant after 6 to 8 years, losing 20% of their capacities. Two options are then possible: obligatory recycling or re-using them to maximise their residential value. Many car manufacturers invest in the re-using of electric car batteries in electricity back-up storage systems. As an example, Nissan and Eaton equipped Amsterdam Arena stadium with 280 second life Nissan Leaf batteries in order to avoid any power cut. According to Sébastien Amichi, car expert at Accenture, the necessary volume of used batteries to build “real sectors” could be reach by “2025-2030”.
